DeRuyter focused on turning around Fresno State
Two days removed from Fresno State's blowout loss to Wyoming, it was immediately apparent that time did not heal any wounds for Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two days removed from Fresno State's blowout loss to Wyoming, it was immediately apparent that time did not heal any wounds for Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter.

"When you're not playing well and the momentum starts swinging, you turn the ball over," DeRuyter said. "And you're giving up plays, it's a sickening feeling."

An anemic offense combined with a defense that could not execute, turning in Fresno State's worst game of the season, Coach DeRuyter made it clear changes will be made this week.

"We keep drilling the fundamentals of it, and the sun's setting on some guys," he said. "We gotta go look for someone else if those guys can't get it done."

As for the quarterback position, Coach DeRuyter will open it up again this week after redshirt freshman Zack Greenlee was pulled in the second half of the Wyoming game. In DeRuyter's opinion, Greenlee just did not play well enough to stay in the game.

"That clock in your head, the game is really fast the first time you go out there," DeRuyter said. "The more you go out there it tends to slow down. The picture develops more for you, and we've got to get Zack there. He wasn't there Saturday night."

And now the Bulldogs will face longtime rivals San Jose State, needing to win their final three games to become bowl eligible and play in the Mountain West championship game. DeRuyter says motivation won't be difficult.

"We're going to challenge their pride," he said. "Nobody likes the taste in their mouth over the way we played. But the good news is, and I remind our team of this all the time, life's 10 percent what happens to you, 90 percent how you respond to it and your attitude."

Kickoff against the Spartans is set for 7:30 Pacific at Bulldog Stadium and will be shown nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
