/*Alvaro Reyes*/ was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his role in the 2007 kidnapping and brutal death of 27-year-old /*Rosa Avina*/. She was tied up, set on fire and left for dead in a field -- and later died.

Through the help of an interpreter, Reyes read a statement pleading for the judge to grant him a new trial. He said he was unaware of the fatal outcome when the victim was kidnapped.

Steven Slocum, lead prosecutor said, "My response to his statement that he's this gentle person is, where were you when they were filling the bottles with gasoline and taking Rosa to the field where she was murdered."

Three other people have been convicted for the murder.
