Proposed Texas bill requires paramedics to carry guns

FRESNO, Calif.

If passed, the bill would allow EMS in counties with fewer than 50-thousand people to carry guns. The author behind the bill says its passage is important because in rural areas, it may take longer for law enforcement to get to a particular area and secure it.

But paramedics say with all that they're already dealing with when going out on a call, having a gun on top of that is just an added burden.

The bill has been referred to the Homeland Security committee.
