More options for food this year for fairgoers at the Big Fresno Fair
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- When it comes to getting your fair food fix this year's lineup has something for everyone. The Big Fresno Fair is bringing back your favorites as well as offering new healthy options.
Getting your foodie fill has become a staple of the fair-going experience.
"We show up early, we stay late, the word is kinda spreading when we go to these new places and were putting out a lot of product," said Augie Magdaleno, Country Time Cinnamon Rolls.
Typically the Big Fresno Fair is the final stop of the busy season for concessionaires. Many of the vendors travel the entire year on the circuit.
"This is our 30th year in Fresno and 45th fair of the season," said Erin Magdaleno, Country Time Cinnamon Rolls.
"I think it's number 35 from May to October," said Phillip Delahoyde, Sharky's Fish Fry.
"Eighteen fairs and festivals a year," said Charlie Boghosian, Chicken Charlie's.
Chicken Charlie's 30 plus years frying up our fair favorites brought him a following so big he now has a brick and mortar in San Diego.
"We have a great fan base. We have fun fair fried food but we also have things you can feed and you can eat all day long and all year long," said Boghosian.
The Big Fresno Fair is now one of only four stops he makes in the coop.
"Where else are you going to get a deep fried bacon smores," said Boghosian.
If you're not looking for something sweet or a deep fried treat the fair has healthy options too. Throughout the fair, you can find BBQ'd corn, baked potatoes, chicken, and veggie dishes and cocktails ranging from fruit to shrimp.
"All our meats are grilled for our tacos so that's one of the best items," said Lola Ramirez, Pepe's Mariscos.
Kelly Sanders and the Gingerbread Shop are making their Big Fresno Fair debut, but the stand has been doing the fair circuit up and down the grapevine for the last 60 years.
As for how to satisfy appetites, Sanders said, "A lot of thought and a lot of preparation and you have to stay competitive."
