FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A retail and movie theater complex is coming along near Fresno State.

The Square at Campus Pointe is finally taking shape. Each day, workers are getting closer to completing the movie theater and retail space.

"The excitement is definitely high because we are very close," said Tracy Kashian with Kashian Enterprises. "The theater is going to be the first to open. They're looking to be open before the first of the year, so hopefully in December, if not right by the first of the year."

Kashian Enterprises is the developer working with Fresno State to create the Square at Campus Pointe. Once built, the Heritage Theater will include a 2,700-seat cinema -- something students like Danny Haight are looking forward to.

"Oh, I think it's really great because everything is close by, so you don't have to travel so far," said Haight.

Students have been watching the progress as they head to class. The theater will be the main anchor for the complex, but it will also be filled with 250,000 square feet of retail space. Already a dozen businesses have announced they'll be in the space including Mad Duck and Wahoo's Fish Tacos. Since then, two more have signed on.

"We have a teppanyaki place that has signed and they're doing their permitting right now, and once they get that they'll be in," said Kashian.

Another new restaurant - Farm Fresh Bowls - hopes to make fresh, locally-grown food available to students and residents. The Visalia-based business is looking forward to coming to the square.

Officials say they're also working on two new leases -- a cellphone provider and a burger joint will also be a part of the new Campus Pointe.
