Kids camps offered in Fresno during winter break

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- With Christmas just a couple days away, many children are out of school and on holiday break. So what's a parent to do? There are different camps taking place in Fresno that will keep your kids entertained and engaged.

Animals are helping kids beat the winter-break blues with fun activities like animal art at the Valley animal center. During the next three weeks, the center will host classes like pet photography and more.

"The next camp that we have is our training and enrichment, where they'll get to have more hands-on experience with the shelter animals and get to train them and provide enrichment supplies for the animals during their stay here," said Nina Tonnu with the Valley Animal Center.

At Young Chefs Academy, students have traded in the classroom for the kitchen. The mini chefs have the chance to cook their mornings away and best of all -- they eat what they create.

"They can really go and learn something and have fun too. They don't really think they are learning something, they're actually having fun and getting to eat food that tastes good," said Megan Buettner with Young Chefs Academy.

Kids are getting a workout at kids fit camp at Rhonda's Personal Training. Trainers say the kids shouldn't skip on recess, and this camp can help them feel good during the winter holiday.

"Kids are busy, they want to stay busy. And the thing is if you let them sit still, playing those video games, they're not burning any calories, they get grumpy," said fitness trainer Rhonda Murphy. "What I want to do is get the kids having fun."

And tiny tikes are enjoying story time and seeing real life animals at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. The annual kids camp is for kids 3 to 17.

"Doing hands-on activities, whether that's through microscopes or arts and crafts, you really get a wide diversity there," said Grace Hamaker with the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.

So whether it's food, fun, fitness or animals, officials say getting your kids outdoors or enjoying an activity is a fun way to spend their winter break.
