FRESNO, California (KFSN) -- A woman was shot around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday in what could be a case of mistaken identity or a random act of violence.

The woman was with a man and had just eaten at the Denny's at Highway 99 and Jensen. Minutes after they left, a car pulled up next to them at Jensen and Cherry, and someone inside started firing.

The woman was shot in the arm and will survive. Several bullets also hit the car.

The couple says they don't know why they'd be targeted.

"In the morning coming home from Denny's you don't expect to be the victim of a gunshot wound -- especially driving in your car trying to go home. At this point we don't have any description of the suspect other than vehicle," said Lt. Mark Hudson, Fresno Police.

Police are now looking for a newer, silver, Ford Taurus that has paper license plates from the "Own-A-Car Fresno" car lot.
