Wrong way driver crashes on Highway 99 in Madera County

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A wrong way driver is in the hospital after getting into a major accident in Madera County.

Authorities say a woman in her 20's was going south on northbound Highway 99 at Avenue 12 around 1 a.m. Wednesday, when she hit a concrete barrier. She was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, but her condition is unknown at this time.

Northbound 99 was closed for about an hour, but it has since been reopened. Authorities say it's too early to tell if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
