Velez died in 2007, when a drunk driver ran a stop sign near Biola and plowed into his van. Friday night's checkpoint was dedicated to the father and husband who was just 45-years –old. Velez' sister said her family will never get over this tragedy.
Officers arrested seven people and impounded 29 vehicles.
