Memorial Day Tributes

FRESNO, Calif.

As the sun rose on this Memorial Day dozens of volunteers raised flags along the avenues at Fresno Memorial Gardens a tradition every Memorial Day for 47 years.

"Started in 1963 with 35 flags...today we have up to 1400 flags," Brian Copner said.

Each flag is raised with care and respect. Each belonging to a family of a veteran laid to rest there. NATS-Rifle salute

At the Nisei War Memorial at Fresno's Roeding Park families young and old gathered to lay wreaths remembering Japanese American soldiers killed in action.

"Not only do we have to step back...take our liberties for granted," Ken Takeuchi said.

Monday patriots from the South Valley to the North are making sure our memories, like these colors, never fade.
