The crash happened at Road 60, just north of Avenue 308, near Goshen.
The driver of the truck was sent to the hospital for his injuries.
Monday night crews used a crane to remove the damaged dump truck from these railroad tracks.California Highway Patrol Officials said the 18 car San Joaquin Valley Railroad Company freight train was traveling east when it collided with the truck -- which was pulling a Bobcat tractor on a trailer.
The C.H.P. said the truck's driver failed to make a complete stop before crossing the tracks. "Tried to avoid it to the left, however he carried too much speed, started across the tracks, and the train struck him at the rear of the truck," said Jackie Leeth with the C.H.P.
The force of the crash caused some of the train's cars to derail. In addition, 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel leaked out onto the tracks.
Becky Parkins heard it happen from her home which is located nearly a quarter of a mile away. "A crash. Just like a boom and it scared me to death, and I was on the phone with my husband and said, oh we've had another one down at the tracks."
Just this past June, 31-year-old Debbie Felix of Goshen was killed when her car hit a train in the same location. Her six-year-old daughter survived.
The intersection doesn't have crossing guards. Nearby residents say something needs to change. "That's where a lot of people get hurt cause they can't see. There's no warning," said John Escalera of Goshen.
The C.H.P. said the area isn't traveled enough to require crossing guards, but it's something they'll look into. Neighbors hope that happens sooner-than later.
"It is very dangerous, and I'm tired of it. I'm tired of young people getting killed."
Officials admit Road 60 has recently become an alternative route for drivers -- because of current construction projects in the Goshen area.
Road 60 was expected to remain closed until about 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Drivers will need to find another way around.
The truck's driver did survive. He suffered moderate injuries including cuts to his face and head.
