Mass. town bans plastic water bottles

Town officials in Concord voted in April to ban sales of 16-ounce plastic bottles to help reduce the number of plastic bottles in landfill. The ban is the result of a three year campaign by local activists.

There is an exemption for an emergency that would affect the availability or quality of drinking water to residents in the city.

Not everyone is happy with the ban. There are apparently some businesses working around it, by selling 20 ounce bottles. Also, other say they don't think it will help because people can walk to a nearby town to get it.

Anyone who violates the ban will be fined 50 dollars.
