Two people injured after train plows into gravel truck at railroad crossing in Missouri City area

HOUSTON

It happened Wednesday afternoon at Highway 90 and South Gessner. Missouri City police say an 18-wheeler carrying rock or gravel and traveling southbound on S. Gessner failed to stop at the railroad crossing and was struck by an eastbound Union Pacific train.

The train left the truck mangled and spilled its load of gravel all over the area.

Two people on the train were taken to a hospital to be checked out. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Officials said it should be another two hours or so before the mess is cleaned up and the road clear. Right now, traffic is blocked on westbound 90 feeder road and southbound traffic on S. Gessner is stopped.

The driver of the 18-wheeler will be cited for failing to stop at railroad crossing.
