Google's Apps Status Dashboard was showing that Google was investigating a Gmail "Service disruption" late Friday morning.

The service interruption affected millions of computer and mobile users according to Mashable.com. Many users who tried to log on to their email received a message saying, "We 're sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes."

Mashable.com reported that the outage appeared to be worldwide and was affecting other services such as Hangouts, Google Drive, and Google+ -- but other products such as Google Calendars appeared to be unaffected.

Twitter trends showed #gmail began trending between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. PST on Friday morning.
