Vandalism Charges against Fresno Fire Inspector Dropped

FRESNO, Calif. Shandra Rodems faced felony charges for "keying" her estranged husband's truck. She faced time in prison for the vandalism last summer that left a small scratch. A judge later reduced the charge to a misdemeanor.

Rodems says she was unfairly targeted because her husband is a Fresno police officer.

Thursday, the judge dismissed the case when the D.A. failed to reveal how they handled similar cases.

"We couldn't afford someone or multiple persons to do that job because it could only be done by reading each case, and still serve the people of this community," said prosecutor Dennis Cooper.

Shandra Rodems said, "It's been so hard, physically, emotionally, it's been draining, embarrassing. I'm just thankful it's been dismissed."

Rodems is considering filing a lawsuit against the City of Fresno and Fresno County. But at this point, she says she looks forward to going back to work with the fire department.
