Cancer survivors express themselves through art

FRESNO, Calif. The display is called "The Art of Life" and it opened Saturday at a Northeast Fresno cancer treatment facility.

This is the third year cancer survivors have teamed up with local artists to create works of art. Each, based on the theme, "it's all about love".

The project coordinator says its part of a holistic approach to treating cancer, through the body, mind, and spirit.

"We found that so many women are able to communicate on canvas what they so often cannot communication through words about their cancer experience," said Jenelle Higton, project coordinator.

About 80 survivors teamed up with 14 artists during this year's project.

We're told many of the survivors use the artwork as a way of saying thanks to their friends and family, who have helped them through their recovery.
