Tulare County's Hispanic population jumps to nearly 60 percent

VISALIA, Calif.

According to the American Community Survey taken in 2009 -- 58.2 percent of people living in Tulare County are Hispanic. Compare that to 51 percent in the year 2000.

New businesses like Vallarta Supermarket are coming to Tulare County with hopes of better serving the growing Hispanic population.

County leaders say the increase in the Hispanic population has also changed the way they serve residents.

This survey is not part of the ten year 2010 census count. Those results will be out next year.
