SANGER, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno County Sheriff's detectives have identified a suspect in the shooting of Sanger High School student Brianna Ramirez.
The 16-year-old lost an eye as a random victim of gunfire last month. Witnesses described a potential suspect who lived in the area.
In a search warrant, detectives say the known gang member was originally identified by his nickname and then as Jorge Alberto Calleres. They arrested him a week later and released him shortly afterwards.
The investigation is ongoing.
On Thursday, Brianna's softball team, along with the Sanger High School student body, presented her with a check. The school, family, friends and her softball coach helped raised more than $10-thousand selling red, white and blue rubber bracelets.
Action News caught up with Brianna at a game on Thursday at the Sanger High School softball field. She said she is very grateful to everyone who has supported her and her family.
"They presented me with a check. Multiple checks. To help with my medical bills. I'm doing great. I'm already getting used to it," said Brianna Ramirez.
At 10:30 Friday morning, another group is expected to present Brianna with a check. That one will be for a scholarship fund.
