Christmas came early for one elementary school in Southwest Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Students at King Elementary School got a special visit from the big man himself, Saint Nick. With just days until Christmas, the kids got a chance to pick out their own present. "I feel like I like it. I like it here," said Ciera Horshaw, King student.

The toy drive at King is put on every year on the last day of school before winter break. "Just blessed that people want to help my school here and all the kids here. To see the smiles on their faces when they see the magnitude of toys is overwhelming," said Monica Baker, toy drive organizer.

Baker started the event when she heard and saw the need within her classroom and beyond. "They'll say my mom said Santa is not coming to our house and that's not alright, everyone needs the spirit of Christmas."

Baker teamed up with Saint Anthony's School in Fresno and other groups to collect more than 800 toys. With such a selection, little Steven Cooper searched high and low for the perfect present.

Students at king were full of the holiday spirit. Saint Anthony students helped each kid select a toy of their choice. Volunteer Abbie Campbwell said it makes her feel good to get into the Christmas spirit. "We should give back as much as we can because that's what we should do and it makes us thankful."

A room filled with thankful and grateful hearts this holiday season.

This is the fifth year the toy drive has gone at King Elementary School. Staff members said every year they look forward to this day for their kids.
