Farmersville could receive grant money for water meters

FARMERSVILLE, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Tulare County city hopes to soon charge water users depending on how much water they use. The city of Farmersville is a finalist for grant money from the department of water resources. They're hoping to use the money to pay for meters at all of their users homes. Right now only half of their customers have meters and everyone pays a base rate. If they get the money, that will change for everyone.

Interim City Manager Mario Krstic said, "Some people will obviously be impacted more by going to a metered rate and having to pay more but I think others will find that their water rate won't change much at all."

If the city gets the grant they will also be pulling out all the grass at city hall, offering low flow faucets and an incentive for low water-usage toilets. The department of water resources will first hold a public hearing before making a final decision in May.
