Fresno Police search for funeral home burglary suspect

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Officers said a suspect disappeared after he was seen trying to remove a safe from a funeral home.

Officers were called to the "Chapel of the Light" on Belmont near Parkway around 6 a.m. Wednesday. When the first officer arrived, he saw a man throwing a safe through the front glass doors. Once the suspect saw the officer, he turned around and ran back into the funeral home and disappeared.

"It looks like he may have some knowledge of the interior. He got a safe. He went into some places, offices and rummaged around. So it looks like he may have knowledge of the interior," said Lt. Joe Gomez, Fresno Police Department.

The suspect did not get away with the safe. Investigators believe he could be still be hiding out inside the business, or somewhere nearby.
