FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Porterville Police Department is working to become more transparent. They want their community to know what they do on a daily basis.

The Porterville police K-9 unit gave a demonstration on Monday. The department has three active dogs in service with a fourth one coming soon.

Sgt. Rick Carrillo with the Porterville Police Department said, "It's very important that the public be aware of what we have behind these doors and what all goes into a days work from our office."

Police want the public to know more about what they do when they're not writing tickets. Each month they plan to post something new on their Facebook page to inform the public.

The police department won't be revealing information about ongoing investigations or information about some narcotic investigations. But they do promise to be as open as possible.
