Fresno police say a murder Monday night may be in retaliation for a fight at the Fashion Fair Mall over the weekend.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno police say a murder Monday night may be in retaliation for a fight at the Fashion Fair Mall over the weekend.

Toma Threat, 19, died while walking home from a strip mall near Martin Luther King and California in Southwest Fresno. Police say he was shot several times by a suspect who pulled up in a white car and fired several times.

Family members say Toma was a new father and was working to return to school and get a job. His loved ones say he liked playing basketball and hanging out with friends.

Toma's cousin, Iran Hayes, said, "It's hard, real hard. I don't know how I'm supposed to deal with this to get through it. I lived with him. He took me under his wing when no one else did."

Police say two surveillance cameras in the area may have captured the shooting. Detectives are trying to identify a shooter and figure out a motive. Right now, officers believe the deadly shooting is gang related.
