FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno police are still searching for the person that stole a U.S. Postal Service truck in Central Fresno on Friday afternoon.

Police say it was taken near the intersection of North 11th Street and Sussex Way at around 12:30 p.m. after the mail carrier parked the vehicle and decided to deliver mail on foot. Police say he did lock the truck and had the keys, but when he returned it was gone. At around 4 p.m., police say another mail carrier noticed the missing truck on North 8th Street and called the postal inspector.

Fresno police say no mail was stolen, but did inspect a red Chevy Blazer that was parked near where the mail truck was taken.

"The truck was parked there when the carrier arrived, and as soon as the carrier returned to his truck the male that was driving the car and the postal truck was gone," said Fresno Police Officer Ed Rij.

Police dusted both trucks for prints. A Postal Service supervisor says two other carriers delivered the mail from the stolen truck on Friday.
